UKIP U-turn? More like round and round in a circle!

In the continuing absence of a manifesto from UKIP, one can only rely on the utterances of that party’s various bigwigs for an impression of what their policies may be.

It would appear that UKIP are already backsliding from their short-lived commitment to ban ritual slaughter: by making an exception in the case of Kosher butchery (shechita). So, as far as UKIP is concerned: there will be one rule for Judaists, whose ritual slaughter will continue and another for Muslims, whose ritual slaughter will – supposedly – be banned.

Once the general election is over, of course, all bets are off. Doubtless Farage will once more rubbish his party’s manifesto and Halal slaughter will be regarded as in the main humane – again.

This is what the Friends of Israel in UKIP Facebook page has to say:

Friends of Israel in Ukip would like to voice support for the views expressed by Agricultural Spokesman Stuart Agnew and Deputy Leader Paul Nuttall regarding the recent NEC decision on animal slaughter. While we do not doubt the NEC was well intentioned, we call on its members to reconsider and clarify the decision taking into account all the evidence and in light of its full implications.

Mr Nuttall said that he, party leader Nigel Farage and agriculture spokesman Stuart Agnew, are all on record supporting the right of Jews to continue practising shechita.

To those misguided patriots who may still be sniffing around UKIP in the vain hope of being tossed a biscuit, Patria says: it’s time to get real!

Patria is the one and only party that will ban both Halal and Kosher butchery on grounds of animal welfare. Both Judaists and Muslims will continue to be allowed to import such meat from abroad. But it will need to be clearly identified as Halal or Kosher before being sold in supermarkets or served in restaurants, hospitals, prisons or schools.

While we determine what happens in our country, what other countries do is up to their people to decide.

See Patria’s published Manifesto for confirmation.

Patria is the one and only party with both the courage and the intelligence to put our people first.

To save the country for your grandchildren: Vote Patria on 7 May!
