Dear Marriage supporter

Many people are alarmed by the Government’s idea of an equality oath for public office holders. Given how often ‘equality’ is invoked against those of us who believe in traditional marriage, it really does threaten to purge us from public life. Read our briefing.

Thank you to C4M supporters who have been contacting MPs to object to the proposed oath. The standard Government response from MPs includes this line: “A belief in equality, democracy and respect for the law underpins British society.”

Actually freedom of speech ranks as far more important for most people than ‘equality’. And this oath would put freedom of speech in jeopardy. While we should all support equality before the law and equality of opportunity, too often ‘equality’ means being compelled to accept political ‘correctness’.

The Government’s disintegration tsar, Dame Louise Casey, clearly believes it is ‘anti-equality’ for RC schools to uphold traditional marriage. Watch her remarks on

It was Dame Louise who actually proposed the idea of an equality oath. The Government has said it will make a formal response in the Spring.

Poland’s president Andrzej Duda has rejected the introduction of same-sex ‘marriage’ in his country, saying “I unequivocally repeat: marriage in accordance with the Polish Constitution is a union between a man and a woman”.

Like Poland, the huge majority of countries in the world support man-woman marriage. Only 21 of 193 UN member states have introduced same-sex ‘marriage’.

Sex education

Education Minister, Edward Timpson MP, has said that the current sex education guidance for England is “out of date” and implied it will be rewritten. (House of Commons, Public Bill Committee – Children and Social Work Bill, 10 January 2017, col. 198).

The current guidance, dating from 2000, says “Within the context of talking about relationships, children should be taught about the nature of marriage and its importance for family life and for bringing up children” (para. 1.21). The guidance also promotes consultation with parents.

C4M will be closely monitoring any revision of the sex education guidance. It is vital new guidance does not become a vehicle for imposing same-sex ‘marriage’ on pupils, teachers or schools.

Thank you for standing with us to defend the true definition of marriage.
