TELL YOUR MP: DON’T PERSECUTE TEACHERS FOR THEIR VIEWS ON MARRIAGE
Dear Marriage supporter
Teachers shouldn’t be punished for their views on marriage. Our MPs need to be told.
Draft Government guidance says that an independent school will be failed if its curriculum “suggests that same-sex marriages [sic] or civil partnerships should not be recognised as being lawful unions under civil law”. So woe betide a teacher who disagrees with same-sex ‘marriage’!
If this is what applies to independent schools – which have the greatest legal freedom – then the situation for state schools will be even worse.
So we need to speak out right now and contact our MPs.
If teachers are punished for disagreeing with same-sex ‘marriage’, it’s inevitable that pupils will be too. The wording must be changed. It is totally unacceptable.
We must see off this serious threat to freedom of speech. Thank you if you responded to the consultation that closed earlier this month. Now, please contact your MP to object to the proposal. Ask him to urge the Secretary of State for Education, Damian Hinds, to drop these plans.
The key part of the draft guidance is paragraph 20. You can read our recent briefing on this issue here https://www.c4m.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/C4M_SameSexMarriageTest.pdf.
